Get Rid of Septic Tank Odor

Septic Tank Odor is actually very common

Unfortunately there a several factors that may cause your septic system to start producing more odor.  Oddly as it may seem, Cold Weather can cause your septic system issues.  Typically during extreme cold conditions frost and ice can build up around the vent blocking or clogging the vent from doing its job.  This will force the built up gases back up through the pipes into the home or even outside.  Dry Drains – are a common reason for septic tank odor build up.  The basic reasoning behind this is that all septic tanks systems have a gas trap componet in the pipes. This function of a U-shaped type pipe is to ensure that the septic gases don’t seep through by blocking the gases with water.  However, what typically happens is that the water dries in the pipes, and odor gasses begin to seep back up into the house.  Surface Rain Run-Off –  During high rainfall times the septic can get flooded and a common solution to combat this extra waterfall is to provide a trap drain to catch the excess water.  Tank Vent –  Sometimes your septic tank may even have an issue with the vent being blocked by debris such as leaves or even building materials during a new build – this will cause it to malfunction and trap gases.
